Warning sign - the Upward, Downward, Roadworks, Wind caution [ Japan driving ]

These yellow signs are you can see somewhere. And you can easily imagine what they are warning.

This is 5th time for the Japanese traffic warning signs. I explain about the Upward, Downward, Roadworks, Side wind, Animal, and others signs.



[ Upward/Downward road ] Mandatory, Better, Good

They are shown the up-down of the road. You can see sometime on the express way or national road. You should take care to down or fast on their road conditions. You can see a lot of Japanese driving vehicles that can not keep the consistency speed.  They do not have skills, knowledge, and something who are lazy for driving and no make effort.



[ Roadworks ] Mandatory, Better, Good

This is the roadworks ahead. You can see sometime on the road. You should take care the traffic. Some time, their working roads are fewer lanes with sings(previous signs).


[ Wind caution ] Mandatory, Better, Good

They is shown the windy are here. You can see somewhere the local road, bridge, or mountains and should take care to drive whenever you have a big wind.


[ Animal caution ] Mandatory, Better, Good

They is shown there are a lot of  animals their area. You can see somewhere the local road or mountains, especially Hokkaido prefecture. You should take care to drive whenever they may be appeared. And this sign is same as previous informed sings "動物注意"


[ Caution] Mandatory, Better, Good

This is the caution sign.  This sign is rare, so you can not see this. This sing is set where Driver should take care for various reasons - freezing on the road, complicated crossing, ,,,,

Warning sign - Traffic merging, Change lanes, Two-way traffic [ Japan driving ]

These yellow signs are you can see somewhere. And you can easily imagine what they are warning.

This is 4th time for the Japanese warning signs. I explain about Traffic merging, Fewer lanes, Narrow road, Two-way traffic.


[ Traffic merging ] Mandatory, Better, Good

This is shown there is the merging traffic ahead. You should prepare to merging another traffic from brunch. If you drive on the priority road, it is no need to give a space. However, for a smooth traffic, I would like you to give space for them...  I'm sorry to be honest, there are a lot of Japanese who are not good at for giving way.

[ Fewer lanes ] Mandatory, Better, Good


This is shown there is the fewer lanes ahead. You can see sometimes on the expressway. You should prepare to merging another lanes.
I'm sorry you may be able to see Japanese rough driver in sometimes. Please forgive since don't have knowledge, manners, skills, or everything. The merging rules is enter in order to each lanes like fastener(zipper).

[ Narrow road ] Mandatory, Better, Good

This is shown the road will be narrowed ahead. You can see sometimes on the mountain or winding road. You should take care your speed, another traffic, or somethings.

[ Two-Way ] Mandatory, Better, Good

This is shown there is the two-way traffics from separate way. You should take care opposite traffics. This sign is rare, you may be able to see in the mountain area. Japanese roads are almost two-way roads. This sign is set the point from separate to Two-way traffic.

Warning sign - Rail/Tram crossing, School, Traffic light, Slipper road [ Japan driving ]

These yellow signs are you can see somewhere. And you can easily imagine what they are warning.

This is 3rd time for the warning signs. I explain about Rail/Tram crossing, School, Traffic light, Slipper road, Falling Rocks, Irregular Surface.


[ Rail/Tram crossing ] Mandatory, Better, Good

They are shown there are the rail/tram crossing ahead. You should prepare to cross them.

[ School/Kindergarten/Nursery Zone ] Mandatory, Better, Good

This is shown there are the school, kindergarten, nursery, etc. You should take care the pedestrians of them because they suddenly running/ crossing around the road. Please keep in your mind.

[ Traffic light ] Mandatory, Better, Good

This is shown there are the lights ahead. This sign is rare. you can see this where you drive the winding road. That is the place where you can not see far ahead or the end of the curve. If you see this sign, please take care to drive.

This is shown this road is slippery. This sign is rare. you can see this where you drive the winding road.

[ Falling Rocks ] Mandatory, Better, Good

This is shown there are the dangerous point of ahead. This sign is rare. you can see this where you drive the mountain or cliff area. You can drive safety only!

Warning sign - Curve, Bend, Double curve, Double bend, Winding [ Japan driving ]

This is 2nd time, I will inform the warning signs.

You can see somewhere the following sings.

As explained previous pages,  yellow signs are easy to imagine ( = No Japanese ). So, you can imagine them.
I explain about curving, bend, winding signs

[ Right curve ] Mandatory, Better, Good

This is shown there are right curve ahead. About left curve, the arrow is illustrated to opposite side (left arrow).
It is important that this arrow does not show the actual shape of the curve whether  sharp or loose. Sometimes you need to be careful when you are driving on the winding road.

[ Right bend ] Mandatory, Better, Good

This is shown there are right bend ahead. About left bend, the arrow is illustrated to opposite side (left bend).

[ Double Curve ] Mandatory, Better, Good

This is shown there are a double curve ahead. It is important that this arrow does not show the actual shape of road curve whether is shape or loose same as ahead sign. So, sometimes you need to be careful when you are driving on the winding road.

This is shown there are a continuing bend right-left ahead. About left-right bend, the arrow is illustrated to opposite side.

This is shown there are a winding curve ahead. It is important that this arrow does not show the actual shape same as ahead sign. Please take care when you see this sign.

Warning sign - Crossing, Rotary sings [ Japan driving ]

From this time, I will inform the warning signs.

You can see somewhere the following sings.

These yellow signs are basically only using illustration easy to imagine ( = No Japanese ). So, you can understand these signs.
However there are rarely signs, so you can not see them in your driving.


[ Crossing a road ] Mandatory, Better, Good


This sign is a caution of road crossing. This sign is used to set a place where you can not check the crossing easily ( Mountain, winding, city road with many houses,  Uphill road,,,,,).

[ Brunch crossing ] Mandatory, Better, Good


This sign is a caution of brunch crossing. This sign is used to set a same place as above sign ( Crossing a road ).  This sign has two version. another version is " ┫" sign ( opposite brunch).

[ T crossing ] Mandatory, Better, Good


This sign is a caution of T junction crossing.
This sign is used to set a same place as the above signs. Since you see also the Stop marking at the same time, you should full stop and turn right or left after checking the safety of the traffic.

[ Y crossing ] Mandatory, Better, Good


This sign is the difference version of the above sign ( T crossing ). A action of safety driving is same of that. Japan has many T crossing. And, Y crossing is also many less than T crossing.

[ Rotary ] Mandatory, Better, Good

As I informed you before page(Traffic sign & Marking 9), there are rarely the roundabout for road crossing in Japan. However, this signs are set in some stations. Some station are one-way streets (= Rotary ) to reduce traffic congestion of the commuting time. You can see this sign in the station.
